Autonomy of French universities
On 1 January 2011, 22 additional universities in France opted for the new status allowing them to have more autonomy in their management. Now 73 out the 83 french universities are using this new status. When setting up this new model, with similarities to the US model, the government's aim was that 100% of French universities would opt for it by 2012.
