Germany: Interest in Informatics is increasing

According to a recent anlysis based on data derived from the Statistisches Bundesamt and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the interest in informatics is significantly increasing in Germany.

In the past year, 48,423 students started their studies in informatics. This equals an increase of 17.8%. Similar to this development, the number of vocational training in informatics also increased by 9.2 % (14,961). According to Prof. Dieter Kempf (President BITKOM), the initiatives to enthuse young people for technical and IT jobs are successful. However, there is still a long way to go in order to fill the 43,000 vacancies in the are of IT specialists. In both areas - higher education and vocational training - women are still underrepresented.
